Forget the weight belt. It gives you a false sense of security, and encourages you to lift more. This can lead to injury, which means you’ll be on your back eating ice cream and watching daytime TV. Stick with lighter weights and more reps. Besides, wearing a weight belt makes you look like a muscle head anyway.

Most people don’t stretch when they work out. They feel like stretching is for runners and yoga geeks. Well, unless you want to develop some terribly painful tendonitis later in life, do some brief stretches between working out. Spend about twenty seconds stretching whatever muscle that you’re working out.

Many people waste a lot of time resting in between sets. Unless there’s a huge parade of eye candy passing by just dying for some conversation, skip the rests. Blast through your reps without any rests. This will give you the same muscular workout, while giving you an increased cardio workout at the same time.

Many people work opposite muscles one day after another. If you really want to build some impressive guns, work out opposing muscles right after each other. For example, do some triceps right after you hit your biceps. Then take a couple days off before hitting those muscles again.

Instead of taking your sweet time going through your reps, try to do them a little bit faster. Of course, you shouldn’t go so fast that you dislocate anything, but when you quicken the pace, you’ll get a much better workout.

When you do bench, look at your writing hand. This will give you a psychological boost, and you’ll be able to lift more. Try it out if you don’t believe it. Look at your non writing hand, and then look at your writing hand. You’ll notice an immediate difference.

When you put just some of these tips into practice, you’ll notice some immediate improvements in the quality of your workouts. Just keep it up, and you’ll be looking fantastic in no time.
