Need another reason to eat more fruits and vegetables then read on? How about the fact that these foods are bursting with important vitamins and minerals that are not only good for your insides, but also the way you look. Your skin, just like every other part of your body, needs certain nutrients to keep it looking and feeling healthy. Fruits and vegetables provide a wide variety of these nutrients in order to keep acne at bay.

When it comes to vegetables, there are not too many that do not provide you with a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals. Carrots, for example, are a great source of carotenoids which maintain healthy skin as well as repairing damaged skin. The beta carotene in broccoli is what healthy skin needs in order to stay that way. Cucumbers are an acne sufferer’s vegetable of choice because the sulfur and silicon in cucumbers can actually reduce acne problems. Watercress is also another great vegetable teeming with vitamins, iron and calcium so your skin does not suffer from any vitamin or mineral deficiencies.

Fruits are also great for acne. Citrus fruits like grapefruits, oranges and lemons have vitamin C which prevents acne. Apples, most importantly, the skin, have pectin which helps maintain healthy skin. The alpha-hydroxy acid in strawberries helps to eliminate dead skin cells (not to mention that strawberries are a lot cheaper than many skin moisturizers that have alpha-hydroxy acid as their main ingredient). Papayas are also a great addition to your fruit menu because of the enzymes they have that help repair your skin.

Now, if you choose not to eat these foods, there is another way to benefit from them. Some juices from fruits and vegetables can be applied directly to your skin to prevent acne. Green apple juice and pineapple juice prevent blackheads and whiteheads while cucumber juice mixed with some water can help prevent blemishes. The same goes for papaya juice in removing dead skin and cleaning your complexion.

If you were not a lover of fruits and vegetables before, then reading this article should give you a good reason to rethink that. With so many of these foods out there, you are bound to find a few that you like. They are always most beneficial when eaten raw, however, steaming vegetables or using low-sodium seasonings on them can also provide great benefits to your skin as well as your overall health.
